Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Prestige Edition KIA

History suggested that Activision would be offering a host of retail configurations for this year's installment in its blockbuster Call of Duty franchise, Modern Warfare 3. Not so, according to Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling.
In a post to his Twitter feed today, Bowling confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will boast only one collector's-edition package: the $100 Hardened Edition. The game will also be available in a $60 standard-edition retail configuration on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, and it's due for release on November 8.
Out is the top-tier Prestige Edition. In previous years, the Prestige Edition of Call of Duty has cost $150 and included such perks as an operable remote-controlled vehicle modeled after the in-game RC-XD killstreak reward or a set of fully functioning night-vision goggles.
While the highest-end edition is on hiatus this year, Activision has upped the ante, along with the price, for Modern Warfare 3's collector's edition. The Hardened version of the game includes a free subscription to the Call of Duty: Elite platform, which features access to all pieces of downloadable content released for the game. The premium package also includes in-game exclusive themes, avatars, in-game markings, a field journal, and more.
