Following the PlayStation Network's massive data breach and six-week downtimebeginning in April, gamers are understandably skittish when it comes to downtime for Sony's online service. Alarm bells have sounded today, as Sony is currently experiencing unspecified technical issues that have brought PSN down.
In a post to Sony Computer Entertainment America's Twitter feed, the electronics company acknowledged the outage but offered no additional comment on the matter. "We're aware that some of you are having issues trying to log into PSN. We're working to resolve the issue, and we'll update you here," Sony said around 9 a.m. PT.
Sony's European arm has reported similar network outages. "We're aware that PSN is currently unavailable and working with the technicians to find out when it will be restored. Apologies," Sony Europe said through its Twitter feed at around 8 a.m. PT. Three hours later, the studio offered an update on the situation, stating, "PlayStation Network engineers are working hard on restoring the service. However, we have no news on when it will be back online."
GameSpot has experienced hit-and-miss connectivity with the PSN this morning, with some editors' accounts unable to access the service and others experiencing suboptimal connection speeds. Sony had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment on the matter as of press time.
[UPDATE] Downtime notwithstanding, PSN users can breathe a sigh of relief, as Sony America has updated its Twitter feed to say that the service has now been brought back online. "PSN update: If you encountered issues logging in today, try logging in now. Apologies for the inconvenience!" Sony did not reveal a cause for today's network outages. (Because they were probably fucking hacked... again)
