Analyst Claims Xbox 360 Keeping Lead

Wedbush Securities says PS3's U.S. sales will jump six percent to 240,000 units for the month of August, when NPD figures are released later this week. The company says Xbox 360 will hit 275,000 units, down 23 percent on the same period last year, but still a shade ahead of its rival.

In the U.S. Xbox 360 has sold more units than PS3 throughout the year, according to NPD. But Sony's recent price-cut for PS3 is likely to result in a much closer fight, and may tempt Microsoft to cut its prices or offer a high-value bundle including Kinect.

Meanwhile, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachther said overall games sales in August sales would be down on last year with monthly value expected to fall 30 per cent to $284m.
